Couldn't agree more. Excellent article. I can't tell you how many conversations about this stuff that I have had to just walk away from. I even upset my sister once during an argument about homeopathy and 'alternative medicine' when I told her she was acting like 'Storm' in the Tim Minchin stand up bit. She had no idea what I was talking about, so I played it to her. She managed 90 seconds before switching it off and telling me to 'fuck off'. In case you haven't seen it I'll copy the link in. Think you'll get a kick out of it. https://youtu.be/jIWj3tI-DXg?si=Io_jmxq4a1U6ZWkB
Thanks for reading! I had not seen the Tim Minchin bit before, but thanks for sending that! That was fun. I've, unfortunately, met many Storms in my life.
Was Neil as smug in high school as he is today or did fame corrupt him? On a different note I was traveling with a buddy from college a decade ago. He showed up with a water bottle that had little labels littering the outside of the bottle with expressions like "be the light." I asked, 'what's up with those goofy expressions? (clearly he had been living in San Fran for too long)" He responded with some gibberish about putting your intentions into water and the molecules reorganizing into a higher power state. I told him to stop using drugs. He responded with, "I wish I could explain it in a way you could understand." I laughed and said, "you are a chemist and should know better. I am not mad, just disappointed."
I have a ton of stories involving this dude. We were roommates in college and he was a normal kid. It wasn’t until he went to live in San Fran where he adopted polyamory and magic crystals that our paths began to deviate.
Glad the glue you and Neil sniffed did not have the same effect on you that it had on him.
Oh my, I forgot about polyamory people until you reminded me. Luckily in the country I live in this isn’t a thing. I’ve yet to meet someone form that community who wasn’t an insufferable chode.
David...not sure how you gonna take this...but when I am having a bad I always check if you dropped a new article. Your cynicism is soothing to my ears
A chick recently told me about a specific astrology that can tell me which years are my bad and good years. Jokes on you honey...they are all bad years
Roslyn, while staying away from seed oils is generally good diet advice because of how much of it is used in processed unhealthy foods, there is nothing inherently wrong with seed oils themselves in moderation.
I would also suggest you read Charles Darwin's experiments using Homeopathy on plants. His results troubled him greatly but he could reach no other conclusion than that the Homeopathic medicine had identifiable impact on plants.
He did not believe Homeopathic Medicine could work, although he did try it himself a few times, and his results with plant experiments, as you can imagine, upset him greatly. But being the great and honest scientist that he was, he did not deny or hide the results.
Modern quantum physics is also leading to new experiments on Homeopathic medicines which look likely to be the source of an explanation eventually as to how they actually work, because work they do.
As to research, Michel Gaugelin is an interesting source. His work has not been replicated as far as I know but then a common problem in science today is the inability to replicate.
My question to those who feel as you do about Homeopathy and Astrology is - HOW MUCH RESEARCH DID YOU DO BEFORE REACHING YOUR CONCLUSIONS?
Or did you reach conclusions and find suitable research to support them?
As someone who is extremely well read on both topics over decades, I can only say, anyone who seeks to learn about Homeopathy and Astrology with a curious and open mind, will not reach the conclusions that you have done. They may remain unsure but they will not be able to categorically dismiss either modality.
My introduction to Astrology was 40 years ago when someone gave me a very silly book about Love Signs. I knew it was a silly book but it piqued my interest and I began to read and did not stop. I have read thousands of books about Astrology and put it to the test myself and found it an invaluable psychotherapeutic tool in terms of understanding one's self and others. Good astrology is not predictive although some do specialise in those areas but they should always be treated with caution because the reality is that the influences of the planets/asteroids/stars do not compel but merely impel, depending on other factors.
And then to Homeopathic medicine. I discovered this about 25 years ago, in desperation as many do, but again with an open mind and found it effective. I then proceeded to read, again, thousands of books and found it fascinating. Homeopathy works even if modern science cannot explain how it works. It is the second most used medical modality in the world and indeed, many of the greatest Homeopathic doctors began as conventionally trained, Allopathic doctors, in centuries past and now.
As a medical modality which can do no harm and is cheap, it is little wonder that today it booms in Third World countries, particularly India. I would suggest anyone who wants to have strong opinions on Homeopathy do the research and read the history and the methodology. In the history you will find that Homeopathic doctors had far better results during the Great Flu Pandemic of the early 20th century. That is a matter of record.
However, I am more than happy to be proven wrong if you can list at least 50 books you have read on Astrology and Homeopath, that is 50 each, and the names of one or two astrologers and Homeopathic doctors you have consulted or interviewed. Many thanks.
Some suggestions if you have done no research - Cosmos and Psyche, by Richard Tarnas and who also wrote The Passion of the Western mind and The Nature of Astrology, by Bruce Scofield who has a doctorate in Geoscience are a good start.
In terms of Homeopathic medicine, there are quite a few books written by doctors also trained in Allopathic Medicine which might suit you, i.e. Homeopathy: Science Or Myth by Dr Bill Gray (Paperback, 2011). There are thousands of books on Homeopathic medicine and it would also be wise to read some of the greatest doctors - William Boericke, C. von Bönninghausen J. H. Clarke Peter Fisher John Franklin Gray Mélanie Hahnemann S. Hahnemann Charles Julius Hempel Constantine Hering Elizabeth Wright Hubbard Georg Heinrich Gottlieb Jahr J. T. Kent E. B. Nash G. Vithoulkas Frederic Hervey, Foster Quin Guy Beckley Stearns John Weir George Wyld, again just a few of thousands.
Homeopathy is still more accepted in Europe than the US and UK but both of those countries produced some of the greatest Homeopathic doctors in history. For a medical modality to survive and thrive, despite consistent attempts to destroy it over 300 years suggests there is more to it than you have found.
Fair enough but you are also admitting you have done no research and are not well read on both topics. I can understand why it upsets you when someone has done a lot of reading and can make a coherent case. I hope you do not apply the same approach to your accounting, medical care, or home maintenance.
Why would I research something as abysmally idiotic as Flat Earth? I'm sure some dipshit scholar has made a super duper compelling case, I'm still not going to read it.
I did not ask you to research Flat Earth. I asked if you had ever researched Astrology and Homeopathy given your strong opinions and the answer seems to be no.
I presume you know that people have always known the world was round, a sphere actually, at least mariners, astronomers, astrologers, explorers did. Interestingly modern physics now maintains the universe is flat. I wonder if it is.
Seems like you’re just upset because Mercury is in retrograde and heading up Uranus, but what do I know? As a cancer, I just want to eat Mars bars.
Take this seriously, please.

Sigh.....
Nahhh mate in high school Neil was a good kid. We mostly just sniffed glue and paint together.
Do you have any more stories about this water bottle guy?
I have a ton of stories involving this dude. We were roommates in college and he was a normal kid. It wasn’t until he went to live in San Fran where he adopted polyamory and magic crystals that our paths began to deviate.

I live to serve, Danny! I'm looking forward to reading your book!
Please highlight any errors. I found like 12 so far. Way more than I wanted...so looks like I have a republish to do...which I hear is no picnic
i’m going to steal “little tart” as an insult. magnificent.
Use it in good faith!
Oh my God I swear these people and the anti seed oil people are the exact same.
Roslyn, while staying away from seed oils is generally good diet advice because of how much of it is used in processed unhealthy foods, there is nothing inherently wrong with seed oils themselves in moderation.
Science and medicine, given a chance, could tell you why seed oils are unhealthy.
At 42, I impulsively got a Scorpio sign tattooed on my navel, only to realise I'm actually an INTJ who is heavily influenced by my Ajna Chakra.
I don't know what any of that means, so I'll just say based.
Core Capricorn, David!

I stopped reading at “as someone who is extremely well read in both topics.” It's all dribble.

Nah, I'm not reading it because it's fucking stupid.
You did make me laugh. You cannot know it is fucking stupid unless you read it. But perhaps you research by osmosis. That can work. Good luck.
Why would I research something as abysmally idiotic as Flat Earth? I'm sure some dipshit scholar has made a super duper compelling case, I'm still not going to read it.

Thanks for the feedback! Such a Capricorn comment.
